About the People

The Palawano are a tribal group inhabiting the mountains in the south of Palawan. They are cultivators, forest-foragers, and hunters who somewhat resemble Malaysians. The Palawano language varies from region to region but seems to have similarities to Malay. Palawanos live in huts that they make from materials found in the jungle surrounding them. They live in family groups instead of typical villages and tend to live with the wife’s family group rather than the husband’s. These animistic people are controlled by their fear of the spirits, and the children are taught to fear them from their youngest days. Mainly illiterate but bright people, their youngsters have a yearning to learn. On the other hand, the adults have a fear of change and cling tenaciously to the ways of their forefathers.

Frontier Stories

Unless Jesus Is in It

In our effort to bring people to Jesus and help with their physical or educational needs, we continually discover our own great need for Jesus and that nothing we do can be effective unless He is in it.

From Orphan to Missionary

As parents and missionaries who have mentored and parented both of these young people, it is rewarding to see their spiritual growth and their commitment to the salvation of others.

Jungle House Call

God can write a happy ending to this story. He raised Lazarus to life, and He can bring Malnasan’s dead foot, toes and finger to life, as well.

A Mighty Witch Doctor Comes to the Clinic

There have been many stories of possessions and witchcraft from their area that would make one’s skin crawl. We have high hopes that our work with their chief witch doctor Lawangan will be an opening wedge to that dark place.

A Thousand Villages Like Them

It was hard saying good-bye knowing that in this uncertain world, anything can happen, but we trust that God will continue to protect them and provide for their needs. We also trust that when we visit again, there will be those who are opening their hearts to Jesus.

Saving Livi

My prayer is that the stories of Jesus that Livi heard will forever change the course of her life and that she will ask Jesus for that living water!

Stumbling Block

After discussing back and forth, sometimes quoting scripture, sometimes telling stories and experiences, they finally took a vote: Is it okay to play volleyball or basketball?
