What is a short-term missionary?
You have finished school, but now you sense the Holy Spirit asking you to go and share the Gospel with those who have never heard it before. You get excited at the thought of moving overseas to another country for a year or more of your life, using your God-given talents for His glory so that many people can have a relationship with Jesus. You might have different skills – music, computers, teaching, preaching, agriculture, mechanics, math, or many other talents – but you’re willing to do what it takes to help the gospel reach new hearts. You are ready for a new adventure: one with purpose, meaning, and fulfillment. God is calling for more laborers in His harvest field, and you can be one of them! Will you go?
What will I do?
You might be involved with outreach activities, performing basic medical work, doing agriculture, homeschooling of missionary children, teaching English, leading out in Pathfinders, or many other opportunities. What you do will depend on where you go and the skills you have to share with others! No matter where you go, you will learn a new language and make friends so that you can introduce others to Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.
Short-term missionaries at AFM are singles or married couples without children, between the ages of 19-35, who are willing to commit one or more years to helping at an established project. Each short-term missionary is a baptized, Seventh-day Adventist Christian who wants to use their time and talents for the spread of the gospel to the unreached. No previous missions experience is required! Each short-term missionary will serve under the guidance and leadership of a career missionary. All short-term missionaries need to raise the funds necessary for their time of service, but don’t fret – God can supply all of your needs, and you will feel blessed as you see God working on other’s hearts so that you can go serve the needs of the unreached.
