Suzy & Fidel Baldwin-Noutehou

A career missionary since 1999, Suzy first served the Otammari people of Benin. Now, she and her husband, Fidel, are serving the people groups of the Pendjari region of Benin.

Suzy Baldwin-Noutehou started working with the Otammari people in Benin, West Africa, in 1999. She learned their culture, then how to present the gospel in the context of their and other area cultures. She used friendship evangelism, medical care and health education. She also worked for many years with Ulrike Baur, another AFM missionary.

During that time, Fidel Noutehou was also learning and doing evangelism in another denomination under the mentorship of his uncle. In 2007, God brought Fidel to Natitingou and into contact with Suzy and other SDA members. Fidel would come and borrow books from Suzy, and that was their only contact for seven years.

In late 2013, God convicted Fidel of the Sabbath truth, and he joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Over the next seven months, God impressed Fidel and then Suzy that they were to be married and become partners in the work. In 2014, Fidel and Suzy wed and moved to the Pendjari region of Benin to start a new AFM project. They live in a small village outside of Tanguieta, on a farm where they have an agriculture ministry. Their work includes planting churches and mentoring local leaders from the various village church groups.

Now, several church groups have been planted in two of the larger people groups and one church group in the main town near Tanguieta.

Frontier Stories

Roots

This year, the AFM furloughing missionary retreat was held at Glacier View Ranch, an Adventist camp in Colorado. Before I arrived, I asked a friend to see whether she could arrange a speaking appointment for me in a local church while I was there.

The Bracelet

The fear oppressed me more and more the farther we walked from Katherine’s home. I fought back and prayed, holding onto my faith in God’s power to liberate me. As soon as Katherine’s son parted ways with me, I made a mad dash across the road to an empty field.

Youth Week of Prayer

We were in the middle of youth week of prayer. The kids had first heard about this type of event in a Sabbath School mission story almost a year before. From that point on, they’d talked about doing a youth week of prayer. They kept asking me, and we tried several times to find a date when everyone would be free.

Stopping Storms

It was 7 p.m., and we were all set up for another evening of the outdoor evangelistic series we’re holding at a school. A storm was coming fast, and rain threatened at any moment. We could see where rain was already falling north of us, and it was coming south straight for us.

Snakes and Scorpions

“I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions, and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you” (Luke 10:18, 19).
As I was reading this verse this morning,
