Sean & Brenda Mays

Career Missionaries since 2006, serving the Shqiptaret Muslims of Albania.

Sean and Brenda met at a U.S. Air Force base in Germany and were married two years later. They became Seventh-day Adventist Christians six years after that. Missions was on their hearts from the start. Evenings with their two daughters were often spent reading mission stories aloud.

Sean and Brenda and their daughters Megan and Moriah were called to Albania individually and together through a series of providential events. They all prayed for the people of Albania for over two years before they moved there with AFM to serve the people God had placed on their hearts.

Sean and Brenda have enjoyed serving the Albanian people since early 2006 and have been blessed to be part of a growing fellowship of Adventist believers in an area where there were none before. Additionally, they serve as AFM field directors for the Balkans, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

Small Stuff, Big Stuff

If I hadn’t known better, the volume and intensity of the words coming from the roof of our house would have alarmed me.

The King’s Highway

Albanian roads are full of surprises. Drivers need to be ready for anything, including road surfaces that change radically without warning.

Counter-Cultural Love

A young couple walks home arm in arm in the night; the man weighed down with heavy bags. Suddenly, as they walk through a dark alley, an Albanian man hurries toward them. Instinctively, the young man places himself between his wife and the approaching stranger. Then he sees the smile on the face of the old man, who takes his hand in both of his and raises it to his lips in a gesture of deep admiration. “You are a true gentleman!” the old man says dramatically before disappearing back into the night. “May God’s blessing be upon you!”

Nerta and Her Friends

About five years ago, our daughters, Megan and Moriah, started a literacy center for Roma girls who lived in shanties at the edge of town. Since the Roma girls had never had the opportunity to attend school, they were very excited about it and wanted everyone to know that they were schoolgirls. Megan knew they would enjoy wearing matching outfits for school, so she searched for a seamstress who would be willing to sew a lot of skirts for very little money. She found a woman named Nerta.
