Sean & Brenda Mays

Career Missionaries since 2006, serving the Shqiptaret Muslims of Albania.

Sean and Brenda met at a U.S. Air Force base in Germany and were married two years later. They became Seventh-day Adventist Christians six years after that. Missions was on their hearts from the start. Evenings with their two daughters were often spent reading mission stories aloud.

Sean and Brenda and their daughters Megan and Moriah were called to Albania individually and together through a series of providential events. They all prayed for the people of Albania for over two years before they moved there with AFM to serve the people God had placed on their hearts.

Sean and Brenda have enjoyed serving the Albanian people since early 2006 and have been blessed to be part of a growing fellowship of Adventist believers in an area where there were none before. Additionally, they serve as AFM field directors for the Balkans, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

Urgency

I was startled to see my friend Azim walking home so early in the workday. Especially distressing was the pained and helpless expression on his face. “What’s wrong, Zimi?” I asked. “Are you okay?”

His anxious eyes met mine. “It’s my wife—something is wrong with her,” he stammered.

Fertile Soil

Sometimes it still takes me by surprise—they get it! Sometimes their insights are profound. While our Albanian members may not yet have an extensive understanding of the Bible’s finer points, they are deeply moved by the relational aspects of its stories and parables. And really, isn’t that the central theme of the everlasting Gospel anyway?

Church Family

“Sabat te lumtur!” (“Happy Sabbath!”) Every Sabbath as people gather in our home, they are served glasses of grape juice, and then they welcome each other with this toast. Before that, as they arrive at our door, they remove their shoes and are presented with slippers. The women kiss both cheeks in greeting, and the men shake hands and sometimes even kiss cheeks if they haven’t seen each other recently. “Greet one another with a holy kiss” (2 Cor. 13:12).

Let Your Light Shine

If you are a young person with a burning desire to share your joy with those who have not had the opportunity to know Jesus, consider becoming a student missionary with AFM and let your light shine in the darkness.
