Attack and Counterattack

It didn’t take long before the enemy started his attack.

When our team held an evangelistic campaign in the village of Dipouo, there was great interest among the people. For an entire week, about 400 villagers attended the nightly meetings. To our great joy, many decided to follow Christ and started attending church after the campaign ended. We were especially thankful that entire families accepted Jesus as their savior. Often only one spouse wants to join the church or only a young person. This inevitably leads to conflict with the other spouse or parents. But here we had grandparents, parents and children all within the same families wanting to live with Jesus. Praise the Lord!

A few weeks later, I received a message from our evangelist Hyacinthe telling me that the baby of one of these families was seriously ill. It certainly had not taken long before the enemy started to attack. The physicians at the hospital tried different treatments, but the baby’s condition didn’t improve. Hyacinthe was very concerned and asked the team to unite in prayer.

The next morning, I contacted Hyacinthe. “How is the baby doing?”

The answer was sad and most disturbing. Not only was the baby not doing any better (although she was still alive, praise God!), but a tragic accident had happened in the same extended family. A teenage boy had not come home for the night and was found drowned in a nearby reservoir early the next morning.

Hyacinthe and his wife were comforting the bereaved family when we communicated, praying with them and trying to bring some comfort. What touched Hyacinthe most was a comment from the boy’s mother after she cried for a long time. “I wish it was Sabbath already.”

Despite all the pain she experienced, she had held onto her newfound faith, and her greatest desire was to meet her brothers and sisters in Christ, to worship Jesus and to rest in His arms.

Please pray for the new believers in Dipouo. Pray for holy angels to protect them against Satan’s attacks and that their faith would grow strong.
