About the People

Located on the coast of the Black Sea, the democratic semi-presidential republic of Georgia is bounded to the north and northeast by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the southeast by Azerbaijan. The country is made up of various interconnected mountain ranges and plateaus and possesses the deepest known cave in the world. Forests cover around 40 percent of Georgia’s territory, and its climate is extremely diverse. Agriculture and tourism are the principal economic sectors. Georgia has been famous for its physical education and is well known for its rich folklore, unique traditional music, theatre, cinema and art. Different opinions exist regarding the degree of political freedom in Georgia. It maintains good relations with its direct neighbors and is a member of the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the World Trade Organization and other entities. With a high unemployment rate and a relatively low median income compared to the rest of Europe, this is an opportune time to meet the real needs of Georgians.

With over 4 million people and only 250 Adventist Christians, Georgians are an unreached people group. According to The Georgian Chronicles, their ancestor was the great-grandson of the biblical Japheth. According to Orthodox tradition, Christianity was first preached in Georgia by the apostles Simon and Andrew in the first century. Today 83.9 percent of the population practices Eastern Orthodox Christianity and has fought to protect their Christian identity in the face of immense pressure from neighboring Muslim empires. These hospitable and sociable people give great importance to food and drink—best observed during a supra (a feast held by people in the Caucasus), when a vast assortment of dishes is prepared, always accompanied by large amounts of wine.

About the Project

Frontier Stories

Unknown Waters

We are, very slowly, learning how to relax and float on stormy waters. We have the certainty that soon we will focus less on survival and more on the beauty of these waters.

Gifts from God

Maybe you, dear friends, have been our actual training. Through your love, you taught us how we can be gifts of God here where the European and Asian worlds meet, in the land of hospitality, traffic chaos and boisterous music. Please pray that we can rise to the challenge!

Treasures on Earth and in Heaven

We are moving our hearts and our treasure to the Republic of Georgia. Thank you for sacrificing a little bit of your hearts and earthly treasures to send and sustain us there!

A Thanksgiving Prayer

With so much pain and struggle coming and going for all the members in our family, You, Lord, kept reminding us that You are in control. Today we, like Moses, are once more asking You: “God, if Your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” Thank you, Lord, for sending us.

An Unreasonable Prayer

If He could move this mountain for us, He can move any other mountain we will ever face. What a wonderful assurance before we go to the field! Thank you, God, for expecting us to pray unreasonably big.

The Storm

Forget about the sleeping rules, I decided, my heart melting. This child is genuinely scared. I picked him up and lay down on the bed in his room. In an instant, I could feel his tense little body relaxing in my arms.

Visionaries and Missionaries

We probably owe all the progress of humanity to some slightly crazy people. To believe that you can fly, to want to explore life across the ocean, to make a dead heart beat again or to have electricity—these ideas sounded ridiculous at one time.
