Holy Lightning

One Sunday, there was a bad thunderstorm, and lightning struck near my house and made me jump.

The next day, I was talking with Quagou and told him about the close lightning strike. In Otammari culture, people believe that if someone steals from you, you can appeal to the lightning fetish, and he will strike the person. As Quagou and I talked about this, I asked him if he thought Christians should use this fetish when they are robbed. We talked about it for a while, and then someone else dropped by, and the conversation ended. The next day, Quagou left for his home in the village.

The following week when I led a Bible study in Quagou’s village, he told me a story. The day he had arrived in his village, someone had stolen his family’s food money. When his father suggested they visit the lightning fetish to get revenge, Quagou refused. It was amazing to him that he and I had discussed this topic just the day before.

God knew the temptation Quagou would face, so He sent the storm to prompt me to have the necessary conversation with Quagou to prepare him. I praise God for the way He guides every step of our lives. Although we rarely understand what He is doing, someday we will be able to look back and clearly see the amazing path down which He has led us.
