Church Kids

It is Sabbath again and time to spend time with the church kids. On Fridays, I make a big pot of pâte (thick cornmeal mush) and a big pot of sauce. After church, a swarm of 11 to 18 children descends on my house. We heat up the pâte and sauce, and everyone gets some. It’s not usually enough to fill them up, but it takes the edge off their hunger. After eating, we do a Bible study, Bible memorization and Bible games. They have a great time.

Since the kids’ tolerance for sitting still is usually wearing thin by then, we change gears and do something active, like visiting the needy. Last week, some of the kids went to the prison to visit one of their friends, and the rest of us went to visit a church member who hasn’t been attending.

Uli and I have been feeling the need to make sure our church kids learn basic Adventist doctrines. They don’t get any instruction at home, so we are their only source. —Suzy Baldwin
