When AFM missionaries ask you to pray, please take them seriously. Fighting on mission front lines makes you painfully aware of the fact that prayer support is never a luxury; it’s a matter of life and death. Melodramatic overstatement? If you’re tempted to think so, stop right here and read this month’s articles from Michée Badé (p. 42) and Suzy Baldwin (p. 38).
Sometimes it takes a few stories like these to open our sleepy eyes so we can catch a glimpse of the war machinery of the great controversy between Christ and Satan that rages around us, and in us.
Look closer at the battlefield. What weapons are in play? What brings force to bear on both sides? Human invitation—prayer. There is no innate power within us. After all, a prayer of invitation, whether to Christ or Satan, is just words. But prayer is an expression of our God-given free will, and both the Lord of Hosts and the prince of the power of the air are eager to accept our invitation and channel their essence through us—abundant life or utter destruction.
If you want to be serious about this war, please, please pray. Set aside regular, consistent time to exercise the balance-tipping power of your free will and invite God to send His holy angels to surround our missionaries and make them channels of His healing and love so that lost people around the world will invite Him to reign in them.
