Intentional and Interested

I was listening to a podcast about being approachable. It talked about how easy it is to form friendships with people when we are interested in them and how, in two weeks, we could learn more about them than if we spent two years trying to get them interested in us. We need to be intentional and interested. It reminded me of our friends and how I intentionally create opportunities for us to spend time together to get to know them better.

It also reminded me of the difference between seeking the lost, intentionally going to meet people and getting to know them, versus waiting for the lost to seek church, which can take years for people to be interested or brave enough.

I believe the Advent movement and the beginning of our church happened because people were intentional about spreading a message. We don’t grow as fast now because we spend too much time hiding from the world, waiting for people to come to us.

Case in point: Our family had planned to spend a quiet New Year’s Eve at the house of missionary friends. However, our plans changed at the last minute because my uncle and his family rescheduled their trip to visit us . . . for New Year’s Eve. When they wanted to sightsee and watch the fireworks, we joined them for a while. The evening wore on, and the area rapidly filled with people, which, late at night and having our children with us, typically makes us more cautious.

I was ready to suggest going home when I thought of how important it was for me to pray for all the people around me. That gave us purpose and intentionality, not just spending time with family but interceding for those around us.

Please pray for us. We want to live intentionally, daily sharing Jesus with new people. Thank you..
