Short-term missionaries are not simply people coming to help with a project, they are people willing to be used by God. Every short-term missionary who comes to our mission field brings something unique: a story, a talent, a profession, a personality, and, above all, a heart willing to serve.
I have seen how God can use people from completely different backgrounds to touch lives. Teachers can teach children and help train local educators. Nurses and doctors can care for the sick and demonstrate compassion. Nutritionists can teach families about healthy habits. Builders, bricklayers, electricians and other skilled workers can help construct places where people will learn, worship and find hope. Others can teach languages, work with children, organize activities, provide computer training, assist with evangelism, or sit with someone, listen to their story and offer a word of encouragement.
What moves me most is realizing that there are no limits to what God can do through a willing person. I do not believe that one profession is more important than another. Mission is not about having the most impressive skills; it is about having a heart surrendered to God. Sometimes the greatest impact does not come from what we build with our hands, but from the relationships we build with people.
When we serve, we enter people’s lives. We share their joys, hear their struggles, pray with them, learn from them and show them that they are loved. Through our actions, words and presence, we can help people see a path from darkness to light.
Maybe God is calling you. Maybe your profession, your skills, your experience or simply your willingness is exactly what someone needs. You may think, “What can I do?” But God can take what you have and multiply it for His glory.
Come and serve with us. Come as you are. Let God use your hands, your heart and your life to bring hope, share His love and transform lives. You may go as a missionary for a short time, but the impact you leave—and the impact God makes in you—can last forever.
