Yesterday was supposed to be a simple travel day for our team. While it did not go quite as we had planned, God used unplanned circumstances to show His love in the village of Waku.
Our Plan: Orion and I, along with our teammates Sean and Joella Brizendine, would drive one hour by truck over a mountain, transfer to a boat for a four-hour ride upriver to Senu, then transfer to a Land Cruiser for a six-hour drive to the town of Vanimo. Yes, this is a really long travel day!
God’s Plan: Halfway up the river, the motor began making a funny sound. The driver stopped and checked it out. “I am going to need to fix this motor before I can take it the rest of the way upriver,” he said. “We are close to Waku village. Let us stop and see if we can rent a motor.”
We slowly motored the short distance to Waku, where we learned that the motor’s owner was out for the day, but we could follow a stream and possibly find him.
A few people from Waku got in the boat to act as guides.
One man sat on the bench beside Sean. I noticed an intense expression on the man’s face as he began talking to him. A few minutes later, I saw Sean holding his cell phone in front of them and reading aloud. I knew that God had impressed Sean to share a passage of Scripture with this man.
I silently prayed that God would use this encounter to plant the seeds of truth in this man’s heart.
As we returned to Waku, I could see that the time we had spent together with Sean had helped soften this man’s face.
God has placed us in a location where we can interact with people in every walk of life. Please pray that our entire team will be constantly sensitive to the opportunities the Holy Spirit places before us to serve others.
