When we examine Jesus’ life and teachings, we discover that He often kept spiritual truths a secret; that is why He frequently taught using parables (Matthew 13:10-11). He talked about “treasure hidden in a field” (Matthew 13:44) and even went so far as to say that the only way one can truly find his life is if he loses it (Matthew 16:25). In her book Steps to Christ (79.2), Ellen White tells us that “God might have committed the message of the gospel, and all the work of loving ministry, to the heavenly angels. He might have employed other means for accomplishing His purpose. But in His infinite love He chose to make us co-workers with Himself, with Christ and the angels, that we might share the blessing, the joy, the spiritual uplifting, which results from this unselfish ministry.”
Rich blessings await those willing to give their lives in unselfish ministry for the lost, yet sadly, these blessings remain a secret to most Christians. For example, only one out of every 41,707 Protestant Christians go as missionaries to the unreached, and there are 57,053 Evangelical Christians for every one unreached people group!1
God is calling us to be co-laborers with Him. He is calling us to go to the ends of the earth and preach the gospel to the unreached. Perhaps you have been resisting this call?
