Robbers

One Sunday, I asked Toussaint, a friend of ours, to bring me something when he came to a church meeting, but he forgot. I believe God made him forget.

That night, the wind was blowing, the bougainvillea flowers were scratching on the roof, and the cat was chasing mice on the roof. When this tin roof of ours makes lots of noise, I simply cover my head.

About 3:40 A.M., a sound louder than the wind noise woke me up. I thought I saw the cat in the window, but the form went away. I didn’t hear the noise the cat makes when she gets down, so I quickly put on my glasses and looked again. Then I heard the noise that had woken me up—someone was trying to jerk open the metal front door.

Then the form came back to the window. It was a face. Thanks to my very bright flashlight and the fear God put in the man’s heart, when I shone my flashlight on his face, he ducked quickly and started running. I saw him go out the front gate with two other men. As you can imagine, I didn’t sleep much the rest of the night.

The next morning at 7, Toussaint showed up at my house. Normally he doesn’t come that early, but he had come to bring what he had forgotten the day before. Praise the Lord!

He got two friends, a welder and a mason, to work on my door. The mason chipped off all the cement that held in the door frame, and the welder took the door and frame away to fix it and add a slide bolt. They came back about three hours later, and after much discussion, we decided it would be better to cement the door in that evening. I would be locked either in or out of the house for at least three hours.

About 5 P.M., Toussaint and the mason cemented the door and me into the house. The door couldn’t move until the cement had set or it would have to be redone. Since I was locked in my house, Toussaint closed everything up outside. He locked the gate, passed the keys through the cat door, and climbed over the gate. That night, I locked the other steel door between the living room and our bedrooms for extra security. The cat didn’t appreciate that. About 3 A.M., I had to let her in and bring in her dirt box, too.

For the next couple days, my stress level was very high. By Tuesday evening, I was still feeling abnormally fearful, and I was unable to do anything normal or even sing. Finally, I was inspired that it might be oppression by Satan, so I commanded that if he was causing this unrealistic fear, he leave in the name of Jesus. Almost instantly, the oppressive fear lifted, and I was able to claim the promises of God. He gave me His peace, and I slept well that night.
Thank you, Jesus, for the victory You have given us in Your name!

Toussaint told me that a lot of robbers use gris gris, a type of satanic power that makes the people they are robbing stay asleep even if they make a lot of noise. People will wake up in the morning and find their house empty. I don’t know if the robbers who tried to get into my house used gris gris, but that might be why I felt Satanic oppression after that. Praise God, He is stronger than Satan! As the song goes, “One little word shall fell him.”

“Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Eph. 6:12).
