Praying for Change

Someone once told me that life on the reservation, with all its dysfunction, is no different from life in any other American city, that nothing is novel to a reservation except that its social ills are more visible and concentrated on a smaller land mass. But smaller could be to an altruist’s advantage. Potentially, the smaller a people group, the faster systemic change might occur.

Not that any culture changes quickly. There are always barriers to change: language, the economy, social and gender roles, and values and beliefs. For many of the world’s Indigenous peoples, you can add shame, starvation, subjugation, slavery and even genocide. Fortunately, when it comes to a spiritual plane, we don’t work alone. Amen?

The host of street people who come to our door looking for help can be categorized into three groups. Some we know by face. Some we know by name. Some have become friends and eat watermelon with us. But we are still praying and looking for that one special, divinely sent someone we can call a person of peace—a person interested in spiritual growth, excited about freedom in Jesus and eager to share the good news with their friends. As Christians, we should be looking for that person of peace. Perhaps one is looking for you.

Please help by joining us in prayer for that person of peace. Systemic change could come fast through our united prayers. Thank you for your faithful support and intercession.
