Mission Monday: AFM Training

Updates:
This week we have the privilege of writing you from our AFM training center condo!!! We arrived late Friday evening and have enjoyed a wonderful, restful weekend here. We’ve already made new friends and connected with old ones too. We’re really enjoying a communal type living environment here, especially with so many precious people around. Today, we received an overview of what to expect this summer and we are really impressed to say the least. Besides the wonderful lineup of teachers and classes, we have an exciting list of practicum as well. Some of our assignments include: finding our a language helper, managing actual student missionaries, holding team meetings and completing assignments with the other missionaries-in-training, holding our own church services and inviting the community, visiting ethnic stores, and the list goes on. Our big test at the end is to explain before a panel how we plan to start an indigenous, church-planting movement among our people group. It will show how we’ve digested the material.

As you can see it will be challenging, but we are confident that God will give us the experiences we need. We also realize that this task is so monumental we could never learn enough skills to do complete it. Only God can change hearts and we need to be seeking Him in prayer like never before. I’ve included prayer requests from time to time, but I felt impressed that I should have a regular list that I send. Our hearts have been so touched as many of you have told us personally that you pray for us regularly. We truly feel those prayers and want you to know that they make a difference.
We also wanted to say a big “thank you” to our friends the Jones who let us stay overnight at their home in Missouri. It cut our long trip in half and we appreciated their hospitality so much. 😉

AFM Training

Prayer Requests:
1. For our spiritual development this summer. Church planting begins with our own hearts. Please pray that God would mold us into the people we need to be in order to be used by Him.
2. Please pray for the other missionaries here and our instructors.
3. Please pray for our teammates in Cambodia. I’m sure they get lonely. They are out there all by themselves and need God’s grace as they reach out to the people.
4. Please pray for the Great River People that God would speak to their hearts and prepare the way for the gospel. God often speaks to Muslims through dreams and visions and we’re praying that He would reveal Himself to our people in a meaningful way.
5. Please pray for all the unreached, especially those in closed countries.

Inspiring Quote:
“Missions is God’s business. Our part is seeking God.” ~ Laurence Burn (came from our class today… could have originated from somewhere else)
