Life is Precious

It was 8 p.m. as Toussaint started playing the drum to remind people that it was time for our weekly health program. Kids came and started singing, drawing more and more people in with their music. By 9 p.m. the classroom was packed. Each chair, each stool, each inch of the benches and mats were occupied by women, youth and children. We had sent out special invitations for this week’s program, and were glad to see so many people. It was a program about the development of a baby in a mother’s womb with many picture illustrations. Most people here think that until the pregnancy is visible and the mother can feel the baby moving, it is just a mass of blood and liquids, so abortion is no big deal. Abortions are very common among girls, and many seem to consider it just another form of birth control. Abortions are illegal and not performed by doctors, but women teach each other about the plants and teas that cause miscarriage. Girls who drink these poisonous concoctions put their own health and even their lives in great danger. After the miscarriage they risk infections that lead to sterility or death from hemorrhaging.

That night at our program, many people gained a new appreciation of the great wonders of unborn human beings, created and loved by God. We hope this knowledge will spare some baby’s life in the future.

Please pray for the health and evangelistic programs we host in our classroom. Most people in our neighborhood are poor and uneducated about health. We long for them to have a better life and to come to know the Great Life giver. Thank you!
