Leaving Behind

Serving Christ and His children is a privilege and an honor. Yet, serving often requires sacrifice, and part of that sacrifice is learning to “leave behind.”

When I began this journey to serve as a missionary, I realized just how much I clung to the comforts of my everyday life. For me, comfort came in the small, ordinary things. My house, especially, was a place where I felt in control when everything else seemed to be falling apart.

The Great Controversy reminds us that choosing Christ is never easy, but it is always worth it. I leave behind family, friends, home and all the things that gave me a sense of security. But I find comfort in knowing that these sacrifices have a great purpose. They allow me to connect with the people I will serve. In Japan, many will also face the challenge of leaving behind deeply rooted traditions, habits and even relationships as they step into a life with Christ.

As we walk with the Lord, we are often called to let go. Some will leave the comfort of their father’s presence, like Jesus; others will leave their land and people, like Abraham; still others, their old ways, like Paul. But the call is the same for all of us: to let go and follow the Master in the greatest and most rewarding work—winning souls for the everlasting kingdom.

Letting go is never easy, but in it, there is beauty. It’s not about what we lose but what we make room for. Each step of surrender brings new purpose and growth, and God’s promises remind me that the pain of sacrifice pales in comparison to the joy of serving Him.

Will you partner with me as a monthly donor to help bring Christ’s love to Japan? Your support is crucial in reaching those who are ready to leave everything behind for the hope of the gospel.
