During this season, we are so grateful for the AFM training, which has been a great blessing in preparing us for cross-cultural mission service to the Ama. Where do we start?
How about with this powerful testimony shared in a mission video?
“Ee-Taow” (“It is truth”), the Mouk people of Papua New Guinea elatedly shouted, accepting the gospel. Jesus’ love and sacrifice moved their tribe deeply when a missionary shared a culturally appropriate gospel message with them, equipping them to share with others.
As I watched the video, I felt like I was back at Pacific Union College in 2008 when I first saw that same mission video. I had always wondered why Papua New Guinea was on my heart over the years. Now the reason for that connection was clear. God strongly impressed that country on my heart when listening to a sermon on His infinite love not long thereafter.
Dale Goodson shared heartfelt cultural stories from his mission experience during training. For example, animists believe types of snakes are connected to a spirit. Is there a Bible story in which a serpent is connected to a spirit? Yes — when Satan tempted Eve! Understanding the culture and worldview of animists is important to effectually giving the gospel message in a way that answers their deepest heart needs. Joella and I look forward to presenting a cross-culturally appropriate message that deeply helps the animistic Ama embrace the Christ who defeated “that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan” (Revelation 12:9).
We are immensely grateful for how God has led so far in preparation to minister to the Ama. Would you prayerfully consider partnering with us through a monthly recurring donation? We so appreciate all of you who, by your prayers and gifts, are a part of making this mission possible. Thank you!
