My mind was suddenly thrown into turmoil as my boss told me I was the most recent victim of the recession in 2009. Without a job, I had to go home and face Edie who had just begun nursing school. How could we pay her tuition and our bills with only her part-time job and my small unemployment insurance payments? We had enough money saved to pay only one more month of rent! In our distress, we knelt down and prayed to God for help in our time of financial need.
What I didn’t know yet was that there was a widow in my home church who was also praying to God. Carol was uplifting her need for someone to rent a bedroom in her home. Finding someone trustworthy with whom she was comfortable was important to her. Can you imagine God listening to both of our prayers and matching them up? Carol learned at church that Edie had started school, and I was looking for work. She felt impressed to come and talk with us. We recognized God’s leading and moved into her home.
This was a pivotal move in our lives as we trusted the Lord, and He guided our paths toward our call to Papua New Guinea. God turned a financial crisis into a blessing. Without Carol’s room, Edie and I would probably still be paying off school loans, and we wouldn’t have been financially ready to answer God’s call to go to Ama. Thank you Jesus for leading us to Carol’s house!
