Anxiety Opens the Door to the Gospel

Rumil arrived at the clinic profusely sweating, complaining of chest pain, and insisting that his heart hurt. He was terrified. Upon listening to his health history, doing a physical examination, and an EKG, the nurse could find no evidence of a heart attack.

We kept him for a couple of days for observation. During this time, he listened to the daily worship held at the clinic. After feeling better and preparing to return home, he shared that he had enjoyed the worship times and expressed sadness at leaving. “Please come to my village soon and tell us more stories,” he implored nurse Leticia.

Leticia was thrilled at the opportunity to go to a new village and share Jesus. So, the following Sabbath afternoon, she took a Palawano friend and hiked over several hills to reach the village of Purungsu. Missionaries had labored in this village in past years, but interest had waned.

Leticia and her friend found Rumil and several others waiting expectantly. They enjoyed a pleasant visit and shared the gospel. The villagers, with much thankfulness, asked them to come again.

Several months later, interest continues, and an increasing number of people come to listen each week. This past Sabbath, 37 people attended, representing nine families.
Today, Rumil came to the clinic again. The doctor on shift believes that Rumil has heartburn and anxiety. Through repeated contact with Rumil, we can continue teaching him about Jesus, who will gladly take Rumil’s problems, anxieties and sorrows upon Himself and give him peace.
