Twice every week, I travel about seven kilometers (4.3 miles) from Guinea-Bissau to the small community of N’Dam. The distance may seem short, but the journey is never easy. Public transportation is limited, and the village has no electricity or running water. Most families live with very few resources, yet they welcome me with warm smiles and open hearts.
I am a Brazilian missionary and a nurse with extensive experience. My mission in N’Dam is simple: to visit families, care for the sick, encourage those interested in studying the Bible, and lead the small group that meets every Sabbath. Although the work is challenging, I know that God has called me to serve these precious people.
During one of my visits, I met an older woman named Nhara who was suffering from severe knee pain caused by what appeared to be a joint problem. She also struggled with high blood pressure and diabetes. As we talked, I gave her practical advice on improving her diet and incorporating some physical activity into her routine. However, something else caught my attention.
Around her injured knee was a cloth tightly tied in place. She explained that a traditional healer had placed it there, promising that it would cure her problem. At that moment, I realized that this was not only a physical challenge but also a spiritual one.
With kindness, respect and wisdom, I explained to Nhara that we should place our hope and trust in God’s power. I encouraged her to remove the cloth and trust that the Lord is the true source of healing and protection. Without hesitation, she removed the band from her knee. We then prayed together, asking God to strengthen her faith and bless her life.
A few days later, I returned to visit Nhara. To our great joy, her knee was much better. She was walking with less pain, and her improvement became a powerful testimony throughout the community.
The story of Nhara’s experience and her decision to place her trust in God touched many hearts in N’Dam. Since then, more people have welcomed me into their homes, and some have begun attending our Sabbath small group meetings. This experience reminded me that God can use simple acts of love and faith to open doors and bring hope to entire communities.
Please pray for the community of N’Dam. Pray for the families who are searching for hope, for those who are studying the Bible, for the health needs of the people, and for God to continue opening hearts to receive His love and salvation. May this small community become a place where many lives are transformed through the power of Christ.
