“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).
Quitéria and her twin sister grew up in the Methodist faith and were baptized together as children. Years later, she married and had two children of her own. Life seemed normal until she began to have disturbing dreams—seeing the dead, having sexual encounters with strange creatures, and walking through cemeteries. Seeking relief, she turned to witch doctors and spent a large sum of money, but her situation only worsened.
Desperate, she left the Methodist Church and began attending one called Dois Litros (Two Liters), where a prophet promised to help her. He asked her to bring candles, milk and other items, charging her 2,000 meticais ($31.28 USD). At first, he seemed genuine, but soon revealed improper intentions. Feeling deceived, Quitéria left that church.
Searching for help on social media, she found people who charged to offer prayers and even told her to record herself bathing as part of a ritual. When she refused, they began to threaten her. Tired and confused, she decided to seek help from another church, where a pastor prayed for her.
Meanwhile, an evangelistic campaign was being conducted in the Nhamaxaxa region, and Bible studies were offered to her. At first, Quitéria was hesitant, but soon she fell in love with the lessons. Before learning about the Sabbath, she had already asked another church to baptize her. However, after studying the truth about the Sabbath and true baptism, the Holy Spirit brought conviction.
Even though her neighbors mocked her, Quitéria chose to follow the truth. One night, she spoke with Bible worker Fernando, who showed her from Scripture that true freedom is found only in Christ. In tears, she surrendered her life entirely to Jesus.
The following Sabbath, Quitéria was baptized in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Today, she is a devoted missionary who has opened a mission field in Nhabanda, where she provides Bible studies and shares the transforming power of God with others.
