A Very Special Gift

“Mommy, do you think I will have friends in our new house?” I asked my mom when we were looking for a house in our new city. I had just visited my grandparents, uncles, cousins and friends. I could tell things would be different in Nong Khai, our new city.

My mom stood quiet for a while before answering me. She said, with a voice a little worried and hopeful at the same time, that I needed to pray, asking God for friends.
We spent a few weeks looking for a house to move into, and we finally found one that had everything we needed. During these weeks, I prayed and asked God for new friends so we could play, explore and have new adventures.

We moved to Nong Khai, and as soon as we arrived, I found out that we had a neighbor who was two years old, the same age as me. Is she going to like to play with me? In our first week, after we moved, I tried to talk with her. I would go outside the house to look over the wall, and she was there every time, waiting for me to say hello.
She was different. She talked differently, and I couldn’t understand what she was saying. Even so, my parents invited her and her grandmother to our house.

Yippie! I had a lot of fun. We played a lot! One day, she invited me to play at her house. Mommy went with me, and we had a lot of fun.

“Mom, what’s the name of my friend?” I asked one night before going to bed. I wanted to thank God for giving me a friend in our new house.

“Kon Kuan,” Mommy said. She also explained that this name has a very beautiful meaning: gift.

That night, I thanked God for the gift He gave to me, a friend who likes to play and likes dinosaurs like I do.

Last month was the first time my friend Kon Kuan and her grandmother traveled to church with my family, and I was very happy! But this is a story for another day.
I asked God for a friend. He heard me and answered my prayer.
