“Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
- Ecclesiastes 4:12
“We are going to need more help.”
Last year, as we thought about what it would take to leave no place in the Isan region of Thailand unreached, we realized how impactful it could be if we had at least one more AFM career missionary family serving with us. It’s critical to disciple-making movements to connect with, train, and equip local Isan Thai leaders who will be the primary facilitators of our church planting efforts. Yet, as we reflect on our time with AFM, we can see how rare and special it is to have the support and guidance of like-minded church planters working alongside us.
We are happy to announce that our hopes have been realized. We now have new teammates with whom we will work closely to establish a dynamic church-planting movement among the Isan Thai people.
Pastor Claudette and Brother Rene have been serving with their two daughters in the Isan region of Thailand as AFM church planters since 2019. They live about a four-hour drive from us in the city of Khon Kaen, one of the main cities in the Isan region. We have already been working together on multiple community engagement activities related to trauma healing groups, disciple-making and social and emotional growth. We are excited about all the strengths each team member brings to our group and how we can work together to help the Isan Thai people experience Jesus’ love in meaningful ways.
Please pray for the five of us — Tonya, Claudette, Ming, Rene and Jared — as we seek to build a strong team with clarity of focus, which is even harder when not living in the same city. It’s not easy to create healthy, high-functioning teams made up of imperfect people. Yet, as we learn to trust each other and hold one another accountable to a vision of what God can do through us to reach the unreached Isan Thai people, we believe we can unlock something powerful, which is a rare advantage that will win many hearts to Jesus.
