Writing Hope

“When you murder someone, there is no way back. You’ve crossed the line. If you steal and lie, you will have to pay for them in purgatory when you die. You will have to be purified according to the severity and number of your sins.” These were some of the answers given to an AFM missionary interviewing one of the Cham people of Cambodia. That’s not all. The Cham believe they can earn 27 times more merit by going to pray at the Mosque than by praying at home or at work. Before prayer, a faithful Cham must wash his face three times, then wash his right hand and arm, then his left hand and arm, then the top of his head, his ears, and finally his feet. These are just some of the rituals they perform to appease God.

Hopelessness—this is the word written in blood, sweat, and tears by the masses who hold onto the various religions of the world. Where can they find hope? We believe they can find it in Jesus. But how will they ever find Him if no one shows them the way? We have accepted the challenge to show the Cham of Cambodia the way. Our vision is to plant a vibrant church with a lay training school.

God wants to write hope on Cham hearts; not in their blood, sweat, and tears, but in His. Will you join us as we unite with Him in His great passion for the Cham people?
