Through New Eyes!

Our training in preparation for launching to Greenland has been filled with deep and inspirational Biblical insights, lessons on spiritual warfare, the blessing of prayer, and the power of God, among other lessons, opening the lenses of my eyes in new ways. The gift of eyesight is more precious than I ever thought.

During our photography skills training, our instructor mentioned the power of different camera lenses. He explained that capturing beautiful scenery of nature and people was not just a photo-taking session but a divine gift from God. Soon after, the Lord captured an invaluable insight and imprinted it on the frame of my heart’s eyes. Our eyes are just another lens through which we see the world. Photography is a powerful tool for capturing stories and testimonies of what the Lord is doing in everyday life.

After the class session, I thought deeply about how long my eyes had been open. I did some online calculations and concluded that I engage in thousands of daily lens activities without conscious charging. I looked at my cellphone and its dying battery. What would life be like without eyes? Yet God’s goodness remains tangible to the visually impaired. Our eyes are a gift the Lord has given us for the enjoyment of His blessings. What grace this is! We need the right lens, the right frame, the right background and perfect lighting for good photos.

In our interactions with Greenlanders, we desire to have God’s lens FOCUS us and that our view of humanity will be pegged on God’s FRAME of love. May the cross of Jesus remain our visible and clear BACKGROUND, and may Jesus, the LIGHT of the world, shine from within us and capture the attention of hearts as we mingle with the people and show that He is the perfect Light.

There will be much beauty as we interact with Greenlanders. There will be amazing sights, including the northern lights. Job’s eyes saw how “He spreads out the northern skies over empty space” (Job 26:7). We are looking forward to meeting Greenlanders as they point us to things we have never seen through God’s lenses. God’s promise is sure, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My EYE” (Psalm 32:8; emphasis mine).
