The Macedonian Phone Call

“Every day I look at your family photo and miss you so much!” Tup Say told us. “Are you coming back? We can eat rice together and go out to the fields together again. Remember when we watched the cows that one day?”

Tup Say had asked the Clays to call us so he could talk to us. He was persistent and urgent in his request, so Adam Clay drove him to a spot with good cell reception to attempt to call us.

During this time we were wrestling with which project call to accept. AFM had given us several options, and we were praying for guidance and confirmation. Adam shared that he was surprised that Tup Say wanted to know if we were returning since no one had said anything about the possibility. In the five years we had been gone, Tup Say had never called us before. Talking to Tup Say deepened our desire to go back to work with the Great River People. It was as if, through Tup Say, the Great River People were saying, “Come over and help us!” This confirmation is one of several we received as we prepare to return to the Great River People.
