The Bonds of Love and Support

Human bonding refers to the affection, trust and attachment that develops between two or more people. People automatically bond when they spend more time together and do fun activities.

We used the majority of our leave to bond with donors. They were beautiful moments. While visiting Horsetail Fall in Yosemite National Park (in California) with some of our donors, we saw the grandeur of God through the fall season, the wildlife, the El Capitan picnic area and other places. It made me think of the beautiful time we will experience in heaven when we meet with our Maker.

The benefits of social contact are so many more than the harmful effects. When the going gets tough, it helps to rely on the support of people who care and listen to you, who pray and share your vision. Social connection indicates where we go and who we talk with. We have potlucks, work in plantations and go bowling together.

The bonding activities during this furlough were more fun when all stress was put aside, and we played like children, trusting that all was well — trusting that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was in control of everything under the sun. It gives me a glimpse of the joy that awaits us in heaven.

We bond with most donors as family and friends, as if we have been together for a long time. Ephesians 4:2-3 says: “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace” (NIV). Relationships are essential to the human race because God created us for community, not to live alone.

So I pray: Heavenly Father, I come before you with a grateful heart. I thank you for the gifts of family and friends and the bonds of love and support that unite us.
