I first noticed Rosemary several years ago at church. She was a shy teenager but often led song service.

A few months later, Orion was to be away for the weekend, so many church members told me that I needed to have someone stay in my house with me for safety. Although I did not feel the need, I accepted the community’s consensus, and Rosemary and her sister spent the weekend with me.

We had a wonderful time going through the hymnal, singing songs, and discussing the meaning of the English words.

My philosophy of baptizing children in the church is to ‘let them grow spiritually and make their own decisions,’ all the while praying for God to lead in their lives.

A year ago, Rosemary was accepted into 9th grade at Nagam Adventist Secondary School. I only see her if a school break aligns with my town trip. Whenever I can, I give her a small care package, words of encouragement and a loving hug.

Recently, I received a text message:

“Auntie, I am getting baptized this Sabbath.”

“Where and when?” I responded.

“At Nagam school, after the church service.”

“I will be there!” I responded with joy.

Friday, I baked some cookies and assembled an extra special care package, including my own Bible, along with its carrying case, a journal and some ink pens.

On Sabbath morning, Orion and I traveled an hour and a half on muddy roads to get to the school. Shortly after we arrived, Rosemary found me and showed me around campus before joining the baptismal candidates in the front row of the sanctuary while I found a seat in the back with the teachers.

Later, as I stood on a sandbar watching the baptism, I cried tears of joy for what God had done in her life and for the joy He had set before her.
