Collin did not interact with me much. Other young men would make a point of talking with me, but Collin, a very young man from the village, stayed in the background. Over time, I started to get to know him a little better, but he still was not coming to church. At some point, I learned that he had been a church member and had even gone to a Bible training school for one year to be trained as a Bible worker. For various reasons, though, after his first year attending Bible school, he had drifted away from the church.
Jacob, the Adventist minister assigned to our area, started visiting with Collin and encouraging him to come back to church. It was exciting to see God working in Collin’s life. He quickly became involved in small duties in the church and was an active member in the Adventist Youth Society meetings.
Now Collin holds church office positions, sometimes preaches on Sabbath, and has even been the morning speaker for week of prayer meetings held when we were out of the village. Many of the church members were impressed with the messages he delivered.
One Friday morning, Keren asked Collin if he could carry a hammer and nails down to the church so the deaconess could repair an unstable bench. As he took them, he offered, “I am a deacon, I can take care of the bench if that is okay?” He fixed five benches before returning the hammer.
It is our prayer that we can send Collin back to the Bible worker training school he had previously attended so that he can be an even better witness to his own people.
