Every month Edie has been baking and giving away cakes to our neighbors in an attempt to foster friendships. Positive relationships are forming this way. One of the houses on the next block contains a couple that is our age. They have five children. During one of Edie’s visits, the lady of the house confided that she wanted prayer for her pregnant daughter Maria. Maria is unmarried and still lives in the house. Edie prayed for God to bless her during her pregnancy.
When Edie visited again, she brought an apple-date chunk cake as a gift. But this time the mother was not home, so Maria, who now had an obvious baby bump, received the cake. A couple of hours later, the younger sisters found Edie on the street and pleaded for slices of cake for them, too. Maria apparently thought the cake was for her, exclusively, and had devoured the whole thing without sharing it with her family.
A few weeks later, while Maria’s sisters visited with us, Edie asked them if Maria’s baby had been born already. We were surprised when they said, “Yes, and there are two babies!” What a surprise for the mother, family, nurse and everybody. During the few prenatal visits to the clinic, no ultrasounds were conducted, so no one ever suspected twins.
Edie went to visit the new mother, the new grandma and the tiny twins. The babies were peacefully sleeping side by side on a woven grass mat on the sand. Edie knelt with the family looking on and prayed that the Lord would bless and protect these two baby girls. The family was very thankful for the prayer, and they continue to welcome Edie into their home. We will be helping and praying for our neighbors. Will you pray, too?
