“It’s my birthday today, so I came to the temple to make merit,” the lady told us, smiling.

We had decided to take a trip up the mountain to the temple, and we were standing in line for the elevator back to the base when we met her. When the elevator arrived and the passengers were unloading, she announced her merit-making to them as well.

It struck us how different this was from what Jesus said in the Bible about not letting your right hand know what your left is doing, praying in secret and seeking the approval of God instead of man. We know this woman was only doing what she had been raised to believe was right. We pray that she will come to know the truth of Jesus and His love.

May God help us use these opportunities to share how Jesus has already made all the merit anyone will ever need.
