It was Friday afternoon, and I was preparing for our Sabbath fellowship meal. I set out a pretty bowl for the fruit salad and a nice tray for the eggplant casserole, then I began preparing the food.
When I finished the fruit salad and filled the bowl, I discovered I had about twice as much as I needed, so I put the second half into another bowl. The same thing happened with the casserole—I ended up with roughly double. How odd, I thought. I wondered if it would be too much, but I felt prompted to bring it all.
On Sabbath, after the service, I looked at the food table. My two casseroles, two or three vegetable dishes, one more small casserole and not much else. The two bowls of fruit salad and a small package of cookies were the only things on the dessert table. A large group gathered around for the meal, and prayed for God’s blessing over the food.
As I sat and ate my food, I looked around. Everyone in that large group had a plate of food! The pastor’s wife tapped me on the shoulder and quietly reminded me of the loaves and fishes Jesus multiplied when He fed the multitude. She commented that she had seen her dishes feed more people than they should have.
I suddenly realized that I had seen the same miracle the night before when the food I made had doubled! I bowed my head and thanked God as tears fell on my plate.
As I prepare to go to Papua New Guinea, please pray that I will continue to listen to God’s voice and obey Him.
