Ever since Europeans first laid eyes on America, it has captured the imagination of the world. But going to the New World wasn’t for everyone. It took a certain sort of person with an adventurous spirit, strong convictions and an independent streak to even consider crossing the vast ocean to make this wild land his home.

Fairly early on, it became evident that it would not be easy to govern these explorers, pioneers and world-changers. They weren’t plodding old mill horses content to walk around in a circle day after day. No, these were strong, spirited steeds who loved to run like the wind across untamed and uncharted territory. They needed a leader they could trust who understood and respected them—someone they in turn could respect. A person who would guide and inspire them to greater things. Gaining the loyalty of these rugged people wasn’t easy, but those who did were able to shape this great nation into a beacon of liberty to the world.

Today, the United States is no longer a wild frontier, and most of its citizens are not pioneer types. However, the pioneering spirit still lives in many hearts all over the world, and some of those intrepid people have found their calling as missionaries with Adventist Frontier Missions.

The truth is, we need more frontiersmen who sense God’s call. But even more urgently, we need those few unique individuals who also have the ability to lead these sometimes challenging personalities as they bring the gospel to every nation, kindred, tongue and people on the earth. We missionaries need field directors to help us accomplish our goals.

Field directors are often the unsung heroes of the mission field. These rare leaders encourage, manage, inspire, counsel and hold accountable the strong personalities God often sees fit to call to mission service. (Can you imagine being the apostle Paul’s supervisor?)

There are many people whose hearts are wrapped up in missions, though they are not serving in the foreign field. If you are one of those people, I appeal to you to encourage, pray for and financially support AFM’s field directors. Our current acting field director, Bill Johnson, is a truly great leader, but circumstances allow him only a temporary role. Our future field director, Graham Allcock, and his wife Pauline, were called by God for this job, and they long to get into the field as soon as possible. Their launching goal has been met, but they still need more monthly support before they can come to the field.

Instead of worrying about the economy and your financial future, why not put it into God’s hands and asked Him what you should pledge in support of Graham and Pauline Allcock, Tim and Dawn Holbrook, Lorance and Joan Johnson, or other field directors? By supporting them, you are greatly supporting the missionaries they minister to. If God has prompted you to pledge support, but you have not done it yet, please don’t put it off another minute. Your support of a field director can make a huge difference in the success or failure of projects in the field. Join us in proclaiming true liberty to all people of the world.
