“I want my husband to believe in God like I do. Before, he never wanted to come to church. When I was at Jil’s wedding, I asked her mother what I should do about him. She told me to pray for him. So, since then, I have been praying for him.”

Kaak has been a part of the Pnong project for many years now, helping the Pewitts put together Bible story books and more recently helping us with language learning. Last week, after a Bible study, Kaak caught me up on what God had been doing in her life. She told me about Chumpri, her husband, and her desire that he follow Chief God, too.

A while ago, Chumpri took a trip to visit his family. When he returned, he told Kaak that he had decided to follow Chief God. Kaak was thrilled! Chumpri asked a nephew to watch his cows so he could attend church with Kaak for the first time. As Kaak told me the story, I could see that her heart was overflowing. Her smile radiated. “Before, I was not so happy. But now, following Chief God, I am happier than I have ever been.”

When we had left for Phnom Penh, Kaak had been a little bit sick. When I called her later from Phnom Penh to see how she was doing, she told me she had gotten worse. She had gone to a doctor who gave her a vague diagnosis and some medicine. As she left the hospital, she met Sabay, the Khmer church planter. He offered to pray for her. The next morning, she woke up completely well. She had not yet even begun taking the medicine the doctor had given her. She praised God for taking care of her.

I am amazed at how God continues to work in Kaak’s life. It gives me comfort to know that while we will be gone for four months on furlough, God is going to continue working here among the Pnong. God did such mighty things in Kaak’s life in those two weeks; what is He going to do in the next four months? Please continue praying for Kaak and Chumpri and their growing faith in Christ. —Cara Greenfield
