Traveling to build a support team and being a pastor are really not compatible jobs. For this and other reasons, Midori and I felt that God was leading us to end my employment as a pastor and throw ourselves full-time into building our support team. After notifying my boss of this decision, we began to pray and claim Philippians 4:19. We owned three things that had some value—our house, our vintage Airstream trailer and our Prius. So we began to pray that the Lord would sell these things for us.
Before I left pastoring, I was talking with one of my members after potluck about our transition into mission work. She suggested that we have a yard sale to sell our belongings and raise money to make ends meet. “That’s a great idea,” I said. “And we have lots of other things we can sell, like our Prius.” Another member standing nearby said, “I’ll buy your Prius.”
I was shocked! I looked at her in disbelief. “You’ll buy our Prius?”
“Yes,” she said. “I’ve been praying about buying your Prius.”
“That’s amazing!” I said, “Because we have been praying that the Lord would sell our Prius!” She explained that she had felt awkward about asking to buy our Prius, so she had prayed that the Lord would create the opportunity if He meant for her to buy it.
Oh, and our trailer and house have sold as well!
God is teaching us that He truly will provide for all our needs.
