One of the most fascinating concepts in Japanese culture is ikigai, often translated as “a reason for being” or the secret to a long and joyful life. It asks four simple but profound questions: What do you love? What are you good at? What does the world need? And what can sustain you? While these questions have inspired many people around the world, they also point to an even deeper truth found in God’s Word.

Scripture reminds us that true joy is part of the fruit of the Spirit. Lasting purpose is not discovered merely by looking inward but by knowing the God who created us. As we grow in our understanding of His character and follow His leading, we begin to experience the joy and purpose He intended for our lives.

This reminds me of the Israelites standing on the banks of the Jordan River. Before they entered the Promised Land, Moses called them to remember all that God had taught them so they would faithfully live out their purpose among the nations. Today, I feel God extending a similar invitation as He calls me to Japan.

When I reflect on ikigai, I see how God has been weaving together every part of this journey. What I love is knowing God and sharing His love with others. He has equipped me with gifts in teaching and communication, and has provided mentoring tools to help build relationships and encourage spiritual growth. Japan is a nation where many people are asking deep questions about meaning, purpose, and what makes a truly good life. I believe God is sending me to walk alongside people in that search and to introduce them to the One who offers lasting hope and joy.

Finally, God has provided faithful partners whose prayers and financial support make this mission possible. Your generosity is more than practical assistance; it is an active part of God’s provision, enabling His work to flourish.

As I prepare to make Japan my home, I invite you to continue praying that God will provide my visa, open hearts, build meaningful friendships, and reveal to the people that they may find true ikigai in a relationship with Jesus Christ.
