Bobby

Let me introduce you to a man whose heart the Holy Spirit has touched. His name is Wawaya Gali. His English name is Bobby. He was born and raised in Balimo to Gogodala parents. His father owned a large piece of land in Kewa and had donated part of it to the government school. The eldest of five children, Bobby inherited a choice section of his father’s property on a prominent hill overlooking the Aramia River.

Though Bobby was not a church member, he had a burden to accommodate the needs of his Adventist aunt living in Kewa who is crippled and was having difficulty getting to church in Kotale. Last year, he decided to donate a parcel of land in Kewa for a new Adventist church. His only stipulation was that no more than four buildings could be erected on the site.

At the time, we were looking for property to build our house. I asked him for permission to build our house on the parcel he had donated for the church since the location seemed ideal for us. But he heard about our need before I talked to him. He answered that he didn’t want us to build on that lot. Instead, he offered us another parcel for our house which was adjacent to the church lot. It was twice the size and had river frontage—a much better situation for us. Bobby’s generosity far exceeded my expectations.
During our last visit to Port Moresby, we met Bobby again and invited him to church with us. He brought along his wife and two kids. After the service, they came to our house for lunch and fellowship. Five months later, we returned to Port Moresby for more supplies. Our first Sabbath there, I was sitting in church when someone came up and sat down beside me. It was Bobby! He told me he and his wife have started keeping the Sabbath. Praise the Lord!

Bobby is on a spiritual journey. He has asked me to pray for him and his family. I invite you to pray for them, too. Please pray for us as we minister to Bobby and the rest of the Gogodala people that we will be open to God’s leading to finish His good work.

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Phil. 1:6).
