Avilla and Nana

“It is because Jesus died for our sins!” Avilla exclaims to her husband as we are having one of our intense discussions. He is not convinced. He believes that Jesus did not die on the cross, that Judas was substituted in His place, and Jesus was taken up to heaven.
Avilla is a tiny woman filled with unbelievable strength. She is hardworking, caring and loved by many. She is my friend. She comes to our home to rest.

In this country, houses often have two, three or four stories, with related families living on each floor. Avilla lives on the second floor with her husband and son, and her parents live on the first floor. In this culture, sons usually take care of their mothers, but it is very different in Avilla’s family. She has to take care of her parents. She has a full time job and her own family to take care of, and then she cooks and cleans for her elderly parents, too. It is a huge responsibility, and she is often exhausted.

Nana, her mom, was recently diagnosed with cancer, a fact that Avilla has hidden from her. Feeling sick, she wants Avilla to be with her every moment of the day, and she doesn’t want her to go anywhere else. “Don’t leave me! I will die!” she cries. Having turned her back on God, Nana has no assurance of eternity. She lives in constant fear. It is very difficult for my friend. I can see her falling into depression. She complains about her demanding mother and brothers who do not help.

I care deeply for my friend, and I encourage her to exercise to keep up her spirits. She used to exercise with me daily, but due to Nana’s illness, her whole life has come to a complete standstill.

I discussed the state of the dead with Avilla, and she understands. I asked her if she will share this truth with Nana, but she said no. She doesn’t want to talk with her about death. When I asked her if she will ever tell her the truth about her cancer, she said she cannot, because then her mother will die.

I feel so sad for Nana. She would have peace if she knew the truth. It is difficult to know where Avilla stands on the death of Jesus. She acknowledges it with her mouth, but only God knows where her heart is.

I love my friends with all my heart. I know that only the Holy Spirit can convict them, and I am praying that He will work mightily in Nana’s life before it is too late.

Please pray with me that the Prince of Peace will appear to them in their dreams so that they can experience everlasting life and freedom from the lies of Satan.
