A recent nutrition graduate from the Adventist College of Bahia, I have been an Adventist since birth. As a child, I would hear many stories about missionaries that deeply moved me, and I was amazed by how God worked in their lives.
However, my adolescence was quite tumultuous. I lived a superficial Christianity. I was involved in various church programs, but I was still living my parents’ faith, not my own. Yet, throughout my life, I saw God working in every detail. When I was in my last year of high school, I didn’t know which college major to choose, so I asked God to guide me to a profession where I could serve Him. He led me to nutrition, and for the first time, I felt like I was exactly where God wanted me to be. But I still did not understand my responsibility to God.
Everything changed when God called me to begin canvassing. I hesitated many times. I didn’t want to go, and I did everything to avoid it, but there was no way out. God knew I needed to go to canvassing; He needed to take me there to mold me. It wasn’t easy, but it was necessary for me to learn to depend more on God. There, in canvassing, God rekindled in me the desire to be an overseas missionary. I was determined to dedicate myself to missions after finishing college. I thought of various missionary-sending organizations, and God led me to AFM.
Throughout the entire process, I felt God guiding everything, from the interview to the fundraising. God performed many miracles—so many that I couldn’t think of giving up. He proved to me that He’s guiding my steps. Now I’m going to Guinea-Bissau, where I will be serving at a language school. I believe God will perform many miracles there, not just through me but in me. I have no doubts that those people will teach me a lot. My greatest desire is to be used tremendously by God so that I can touch the hearts of those people. Your prayers would be most appreciated.
