“What is the greatest need you have at AFM?”
This is a question we often get asked. People usually expect us to have something quick and simple to say, like: “Oh Brother So-and-so, we need a teacher for the Example people of Somewhere Island!” But the answer to this question is not usually so simple. We might need a teacher, but is that really our greatest need? If Brother So-and-so is not a teacher, does that mean we don’t need him?
So what, then, is our greatest need? Is it teachers, nurses or pastors? Is it money or literature? All those things are good, and we can use all of them. But really, our greatest need is much simpler:
People.
Ordinary people with ordinary skills who have experienced the love of Jesus and want to share it with others. People willing to step outside of their comfort zone and do something they may never have done before in a place they may never have been, all for the glory of God.
We need Student and Short-term Missionaries who are (or are going to be) physical therapists, computer scientists, accountants or other professions who are willing to teach, visit neighbors and look for creative ways to use their training as a blessing even if it is not in their specific field. We need people willing to create a gap in their resume to fill with treasures their next employer may not understand, but Heaven will.
We need Career Missionaries willing to sacrifice a well-paying career and a regular, predictable life to go and introduce hope and salvation to people raised to believe those things do not exist. We need people who will be the hands, feet and mouth of Jesus in places where no one knocks on doors to announce the next evangelistic series beginning at the local church—because there isn’t a local church at all.
All over the world, people are dying without knowledge of the Savior. The words of that Savior ring true: “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few” (Luke 10:2). Laborers, ordinary, heaven-sent laborers, are the world’s greatest need.
Could you be that ordinary person? Could God be calling you to labor in untouched fields for His harvest? We invite you to pray, surrender your heart and plans, and take the first step in fulfilling His will for your life. God will direct your steps in ways you could never have imagined.
You can be the answer to His greatest need and the needs of the unreached. Please contact us at recruiter@afmonline.org.
