Sent with Bread

Some of the most powerful moments in Scripture began with something surprisingly simple: a father saying, “Go,” and placing bread into his son’s hands.

Jacob once sent Joseph to check on his brothers. That journey led to storehouses filled with grain that saved whole nations during a famine.

Jesse sent David to the battlefield, also to check on his brothers. He was simply a young shepherd bringing them bread. Yet his journey led to the defeat of a giant and the rise of a future king.

God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to save His unreached brothers and sisters by feeding them with the Bread of Life. While delivering precious morsels of Scripture, crowds grew hungry and Jesus, taking a few loaves offered by a young boy, fed the multitudes through the blessing of His Father.

Again and again, God takes what seems small and uses it to change history, working through willing hearts and surrendered gifts.

Today, across the unreached regions of the world, there are villages where the name of Jesus has never been spoken, where families have never opened a Bible, and where children have never heard of a Savior who loves them deeply and gave His life for them.

The world is hungry, starving for hope, for peace and for truth. Millions are famished, waiting to be fed by the Bread of Life, thus satisfying the deepest hunger of the human soul.

This is why the mission of AFM matters so deeply. Missionaries go into some of the hardest-to-reach places on earth, carrying the hope of Christ to those who have never had an opportunity to hear the gospel. They cross cultures, learn languages, endure hardship and pour out their lives because they know every soul matters to God.
But missionaries do not go alone. Behind every missionary is a community of believers who choose to send them, people who understand that while not everyone can physically go into the mission field, every believer CAN help place the Bread of Life into the hands of those who go into the mission field.

Some hands help translate Scripture, give Bible studies or train workers. Other hands help provide transportation to remote villages or establish a witness where none has existed before. Some hands teach the children of missionary families.

Every act of generosity, every gift given in faith, no matter how small it may feel in your hands, becomes life-changing in God’s hands, a part of His sacred work of carrying hope further into the darkness.

Imagine standing in heaven one day and meeting someone who says, “Thank you. Because you gave, someone came, and I heard about Jesus.”
More than a donation, your gift is participation in the heart of God.

The world is hungry. There is “a famine throughout the land—not a famine of food or a thirst for water—but rather a famine of hearing the words of the Lord” (Amos 8:11). Will you help us carry the Bread of Life to those still waiting to be fed?
