I was peacefully living the retired life, chauffeuring grandkids to after-school activities, baking cookies and hiking trillium trails. Then quite unexpectedly, following Dr. Vine’s resignation, I was asked if I would be willing to step in until a new president is firmly in place.
Talk about a shock to the system! Even though I had worked for AFM over 20 years in various capacities, understood our procedures and loved our people (including you, our supporters), the task felt overwhelming. Then, in the middle of the storm of emotions, God spoke peace into my raging heart, “Trust Me to take care of AFM.”
Disciples of Jesus are often placed in situations where total, utter dependence on God is necessary. In fact, our success as an organization depends on admitting that the task of reaching the unreached is an impossibility if trusting in human strength. Only God can give the wisdom, resources and courage to take on people groups held captive by the enemy.
While the devil takes great delight in generating storms to keep us from our task, we must remember that the ferocious storm on the Sea of Galilee preceded the miraculous healing of the Gadarenes demoniac.
Join me in praying for God’s guidance as we unite in reaching the unreached. Time is short and Jesus calls. Are you willing to answer His call?
I leave you with the words of this powerful hymn, “Facing a Task Unfinished,” by Frank Houghton (1931).
