A Higher Calling

It was the morning of November 7, 2024, when I woke up to an unexpected text message from my Bible study partner, Erin, asking me to stop by her office. Thoughts started running through my mind, Why does she want me to stop by? As I sat down for morning worship, I opened my devotional reading for the day titled “The Church to Advance God’s Work.”

As I began to read, the Lord impressed upon my mind that Erin was going to be offering me a job at Adventist Frontier Missions. I had been working in sales, and what started as a potential long-term career slowly lost its momentum and my interest.

As I made my way to Erin’s office, I was greeted with a warm smile as she invited me inside. Erin explained, “I was praying for you yesterday when suddenly it hit me—Shaina! Shaina needs a job, and I need an assistant.”

I looked at her and asked, “Did you know I was planning to put my resignation in today at my current job?” We looked at each other in awe as we realized how evident it was that God was opening this door for me.

During the previous two years, I worked at several jobs, not understanding what God’s plan was for my life. Yet He was molding me and shaping my character for one of my heart’s truest desires, serving Him by being a part of the Great Commission to which He has called us.

Likewise, perhaps God’s plan for your life entails His use of you in ways you may never have imagined, just as I never imagined how God would use my talents to reach the unreached.

Many are waiting to hear the good news of Jesus’ love and redemption. “Not all can go, but all can give” (Annie Johnson Flint). Your financial support can help missionaries serve the unreached throughout the world. Please prayerfully consider supporting those He is sending to reach the unreached.
