In a small village in southern Mozambique, surrounded by coconut trees and cassava fields, a 10-year-old girl was about to change the lives of those around her. Lilian, a curious and vibrant child, lived with her maternal grandmother, Aureliana, in Mabil. Her mother, Júlia, a dedicated teacher, worked far from home and could only visit Lilian on weekends. Lilian’s life was simple but full of joy and curiosity.
It was during one of these visits that Júlia met Julio, one of our native Bible workers. He was in the neighborhood, sharing God’s Word with the residents. Júlia, interested in learning more about the Bible, invited Julio to study with her. And that is how Lilian—with bright, curious eyes and a mind eager to learn—joined them in Bible studies. She was thirsty to know more about God’s Word and became a fervent disciple, eager to learn more about God’s love.
From that moment on, Lilian began to share her faith with others. She invited other children in the neighborhood to study the Bible with her and soon formed a small study group. Lilian became a little missionary, sharing the good news with everyone around her. “I want everyone to know about Jesus’ love!” Lilian exclaimed, with eyes shining with enthusiasm. “He is so good and so loving!” Lilian also started praying with her friends before school classes, asking for wisdom and protection. She became a leader among the children, showing them the way of faith.
However, Lilian’s journey was only just beginning, and it would not be easy. Her mother, Júlia, who also participated in Bible studies, did not understand Lilian’s passion for faith in Jesus and opposed her new belief. She even forbade Lilian from attending the local Adventist church, where Julio, the Bible worker, invited children to gather for Sabbath school every Saturday morning. “I don’t want you to get involved with that church,” Júlia said seriously. “It’s better for you to focus on your studies.” The opposition from Lilian’s mother was a difficult challenge for her, but it did not stop her from continuing to follow her faith.
Lilian did not give up. She continued to study the Bible with Julio and share her faith with others. She knew Jesus was with her, guiding and protecting her. “Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven’” (Matthew 19:14). These words from the Lord echoed in Lilian’s heart, and she knew she needed to continue sharing her faith with others.
And so, Lilian continues to sow the seeds of faith in her own heart and the hearts of those around her. Her story is a testament to God’s mighty work and reminds us that faith is a precious gift that can change anyone’s life, regardless of age or circumstances. May Lilian’s story inspire you to pray for her and all the children who are seeking God and encourage you to support God’s work in their lives. May we learn from Lilian’s example and continue to share the good news with everyone around us.
