The God Prod

“I was just thinking about you a couple of weeks ago, and then yesterday you showed up on my schedule!” exclaimed Dr. Lana.

On two previous field director visits to see Hadassah Song on her project among the Brahmi people, I had gone to see Dr. Lana, a dentist in the capital city, to have my teeth cleaned and some minor dental work done. Having served overseas for 17 years, I no longer had a dentist and asked Hadassah if she knew of a good one I could see. Indeed! There was a clinic that many expats went to and were quite happy with the quality. So Hadassah scheduled an appointment for me.

It was on the first visit that I met Dr. Lana, a dentist of national origin. The visit went well, and I really liked Dr. Lana, so I followed up with her the next year.

In preparation for our annual field director visit last fall, I was thinking about whether to see Dr. Lana, since I had found a good dentist near where we now live. I was also praying that somehow God would use us on this trip. Since Dr. Lana is only in the clinic on Fridays and we only had one Friday available to see her, I was thinking it may not be possible. Then on Thursday, Hadassah inquired, “Do you want to go to the dentist while here?”

“Sure, if she has time to see me.”

Hadassah called and learned that a slot was available the following afternoon.

When it was my time to see Dr. Lana, she was happy to see me. Maybe this is a visit I need to continue making each year to keep building this relationship, I thought. Who knows what God has planned? I want to be sensitive to His prodding.
