Before pausing my nursing career in Brazil and coming to Africa as a missionary in February 2026, I received a very special Bible from Mrs. Cleide, a kind woman from Londrina, Brazil. The Bible had belonged to her daughter, who, before passing away from cancer, expressed one final wish: that her Bible would be given to someone who could use it to share God’s Word. When Mrs. Cleide learned that I was preparing to serve as a missionary in Guinea-Bissau, she entrusted that precious gift to me.
Some time later, I met Levi, a 12-year-old boy who lives in Guinea-Bissau. Levi is baptized and is the only Seventh-day Adventist in his family. Despite the challenges of being the only believer at home, he faithfully attends church every Sabbath, participates in the Pathfinder Club, and gladly helps during the worship service by assisting with the collection of tithes and offerings.
One day, Levi asked me if I could give him a Bible. Since I knew he already owned one, I didn’t understand why he needed another. I asked him to come back another day so we could talk about it.
To my surprise, early the very next morning, Levi was already standing outside my house, excited to receive the Bible. I asked him, “Levi, you already have a Bible. Why do you need another one?”
With a gentle smile, he answered, “I want to leave this Bible at home so my family can read and study it too.”
At that moment, I understood that his request was never about himself. His greatest desire was to share God’s Word with those he loves most.
Because of Mrs. Cleide’s generosity and Levi’s missionary heart, that Bible found its next purpose. One day, when Jesus returns, I hope that Mrs. Cleide’s daughter will meet Levi in God’s eternal kingdom and discover that the Bible she once treasured continued to bring hope, faith and salvation to others.
What a beautiful reminder that acts of love placed in God’s hands can cross continents, touch hearts and produce eternal results.
