No Sacrifice Here!

Nooks and crannies become integral storage cubbies when you live in a tiny home. Maybe some of you who have lived in small homes can relate. It seems that Diane and I are always trying to find the right space for this or that item and moving things around to find out what works best. My spare time lately has been filled with making life livable in our 22-foot-long, 7-foot-wide, 6-foot-3-inches high home inside our conversion van. It is like a puzzle sometimes as we look for the right fit, and the best solutions can be counter-intuitive, like storing our small folding table in the bathroom. Paring down our possessions to only the essentials is quite a lifestyle adjustment.

When we travel around Australia sharing about AFM in churches from the compact comfort of our van, I keep reflecting on how much more luxury we enjoy than Jesus had on earth. Scripture tells us in Matthew 8:20, “The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay His head.” At least we have shelter and a bed to sleep in each night.

When we view our lives from the perspective of what Jesus endured, we realize that we have never really sacrificed. Yes, we are pilgrims passing through this world, and our ultimate home awaits us in heaven. However, we know very little want here. Our amazing Lord provides for our needs and gives us a place for everything, even to lay our head.

Won’t it be great to meet in the vastness of heaven under the wide, spreading branches of the tree of life, unlimited by space or time? I long for that day when I can be with Jesus and with all of you.
